Heitkamp Statement on Passage of Mexico Labor Reforms

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Trade Works for America Co-Chair and former Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) today issued the following statement upon passage of new labor reforms in Mexico, a critical step in the process of ratifying the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):

“A key part of USMCA’s strong labor protection provisions is a requirement for Mexico to improve the treatment of its own workers. I’m pleased that Mexico today enacted reforms to its labor laws, upholding its end of the agreement and providing Mexican workers with necessary workplace protections. Now that Mexico has modernized and improved its labor laws, Speaker Pelosi and Congress should give the USMCA their seal of approval and allow this important agreement to move through the legislative process.”
