Trade Works for America Coalition Announces Former Senator Heidi Heitkamp and Phil Cox as Bipartisan Co-Chairs
Heitkamp and Cox Will Lead Efforts to Secure the USMCA’s Approval in Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C.Trade Works for America – a coalition comprised of businesses and workers from across the country who are advocating for the approval of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) – today announced former Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and former Republican Governors Association Executive Director Phil Cox will serve as the coalition’s bipartisan co-chairs.

“The USMCA is a welcome agreement for America’s farmers and ranchers who will no longer face a competitive disadvantage when doing business with Canada and Mexico,” said Trade Works for America Co-Chair Heidi Heitkamp. “As a senator from North Dakota, I advocated for a competitive North American trade agreement that maintains relationships with Canada and Mexico while protecting American jobs. I’ve long been an advocate for smart trade policies, and I am excited to partner with Phil to educate citizens about this critical agreement and to ensure members of Congress – whether they represent agriculture, manufacturing, or energy workers – vote to pass this agreement.”

The USMCA is a free trade agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada to replace the 25-year old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Containing provisions that will protect American workers and industries in a 21st century economy, the USMCA will make it easier to sell American-made products to Canada and Mexico while supporting 14 million jobs in the United States. The United States, Mexico, and Canada will review the agreement every six years to ensure it continues to protect American workers and industries.

“The world has changed dramatically in the quarter-century since NAFTA went into effect. USMCA is a balanced, modern trade agreement that reflects today’s economy and puts American workers first,” said Trade Works for America Co-Chair Phil Cox. “I’m excited to partner with Senator Heitkamp as we educate voters and members of Congress about the many benefits of USMCA. It’s time for Congress to put partisanship aside, the interest of American workers first, and pass this commonsense agreement.”
